HONY (Humans of New York)

Humans of New York  “I had a child when I was sixteen. I got kicked out of high school because of all the absences. My family and community pretty much wrote me off. But right away I got a job at a sporting goods store. Soon I was able to get a job as a receptionist at a tax company, and they gave me enough responsibilities that I learned how to do taxes. Eventually I learned enough to become an associate. Then I got offered a job at a smaller company, and even though it was a pay cut, they offered me responsibility over all the books — accounts payable, accounts receivable, everything. It was less money but I wanted that experience so I took the risk. And I’m so glad I did, because six months later, the controller of that company left and I was given that position. They told me they couldn’t officially call me the controller because I didn’t have a college degree. So I finished my degree 5 months ago — just to make it official! So after having a child at sixteen, I made it all the way to controller of a company, without even having a college degree. Can you believe that? Honestly, I’ve been waiting to tell that story so long that I told it to a customer service representative on the phone last week. She was nice about it and pretended to care.”

      •  Because everyone can see what they've been through.
      • So people won't label them.
      •  The person got kicked out of school.
      •  She got offered a smaller job at a company.
      •  No one labels her.
      • You will go to your class' group discussion and return to our "blogger" discussion and you will find 5 other students' blogs and you will read their HONY post and make an intelligent comment under it (it does not have to be super long, but "I like this" etc. does not cut it!)

If I Were An Adult
If I were an Adult even just for a day
I'd tell people what to do and I can do whatever I want
And would never have to go to school anymore.

I'd start a successful business
And I'd make a lot of money,
because I dream of being successful.

If I were an adult
I think I could decide on what to do, like get married.
I swear I'd be a great father/ husband
I'd be honest and truthful to everyone
because I need to mature a bit more.

If I were an adult
I would show responsibility and
I'd start a very successful business
And earn lots of money.

because I know that I'm going to be a Adult soon.

Googling

I am an intermediate user of google.  It was somewhat easy for me to get my assignments finished.  The blogger app was the hardest app for me to navigate.  It was difficult trying to sign in to my blog and get it started. I like using technology in school because I can finally do something else besides stare at paper.  I would rate google as a high quality search engine that everyone should use, and I recommend it to others. There are no other experiences I had during these lessons/ assignments while using these apps.
